Luciano Pavarotti was the most famous tenor of his generation, catapulted to stardom as “The King of the High C’s” after performances of La Fille du Regiment. He capitalized on his larger than life personality as much as his sweet, natural tenor voice to become an opera and media star. His career began in 1961 with his professional debut, and lasted until his final appearances in 2006. Pavarotti remains a beloved artist with an enormous legacy. Franco Zeffirelli summed him up best: “There were tenors, and then there was Pavarotti.”
